What is Author Schema?
Author Schema is the structured data that identifies who created a piece of content, usually the author property of an Article or BlogPosting pointing to a Person (or Organization) from Schema.org, with properties such as name, url, jobTitle, affiliation and sameAs links to profiles elsewhere. It is typically implemented in JSON-LD on article and blog pages.
Google's author markup best practices recommend including the author's name and a url pointing to an author page or profile, which helps Google understand who the author is and tell them apart from others with the same name. Markup supports, but cannot create, E-E-A-T: the credentials it references need to exist and be visible on the page, which matters most for YMYL topics.
Why it matters for SEO
Author markup is a clear, machine-readable way to connect content to the person responsible for it. Implemented consistently, with a real author page and matching sameAs profiles, it helps Google attribute content correctly and supports the visible E-E-A-T signals that quality evaluations look for.
Example
An Article block includes "author": {"@type": "Person", "name": "Dr. Maya Patel", "url": "https://example.com/authors/maya-patel", "jobTitle": "Consultant Dermatologist", "sameAs": ["https://www.linkedin.com/in/example"]}. The url points to an author page on the same site listing her credentials and other articles, so the markup and the visible byline tell the same story.
