Traffic Value

Traffic value is a metric that estimates the monetary worth of a website's organic traffic by calculating how much it would cost to acquire the same volume of clicks through paid search advertising. It is derived by multiplying the estimated monthly organic clicks for each keyword a site ranks for by the average cost-per-click (CPC) for those keywords in Google Ads, then summing the results.

Traffic value is commonly reported by tools like Ahrefs and Semrush and is useful for demonstrating the business impact of SEO to stakeholders who think in advertising budget terms. It also helps prioritize keyword opportunities: a keyword with moderate volume but very high CPC may represent more economic value than a high-volume keyword with low CPC.

Why it matters for SEO

Traffic value translates SEO performance into a financial language that resonates with executives and clients who may not be familiar with organic search metrics. It provides a compelling way to answer the question "what is our SEO worth?" by framing organic traffic as the equivalent of a paid media budget that has been replaced or supplemented through search optimization.
