What Is a SERP Checker?

A SERP checker is a tool that looks up a keyword on Google and tells you where a website appears on the search engine results page (SERP). Instead of searching yourself and scrolling through pages of results, which Google personalizes to your location and history, you enter your domain and keywords and get the position, the URL that ranks and the sites ranking above you.

This SERP checker fetches the live top 100 organic Google results for each keyword in the country you choose, finds your domain in them and lists the top 10 competitors. It is a one-off live check, not a daily rank tracker: run it whenever you want a current snapshot.

How the SERP Checker Works

STEP 1

Enter your domain

Type your domain or paste any URL from your site. Subdomains like blog.example.com are included unless you turn that off.

STEP 2

Add up to 5 keywords

One per line or comma separated, then pick one of 15 Google markets.

STEP 3

See where you rank

We fetch the live top 100 for each keyword and show your position, the ranking URL, SERP features and the top 10.

What the Results Mean

Position

Your best organic position for the keyword: 1 is the first organic result, 11 is the top of page 2. Ads and SERP features such as the local pack are not counted.

Ranking URL

The page Google chose to rank. If it is not the page you meant to rank, the two pages may be competing for the same keyword.

SERP features

Extras on the results page, such as People also ask, an AI Overview, a featured snippet, videos or a local pack. They push organic results down and take clicks.

Top 10 competitors

The pages on page 1, with your site highlighted. Their format and depth show what Google rewards for the keyword.

Not in the top 100

Your domain did not appear in the organic results checked. It may still rank lower, rank in another country, or not be indexed.

More than one URL

If several of your pages rank, we list all of them (up to 10) with their positions so you can spot overlap.

Why Your Rankings Can Look Different

There is no single “true” Google ranking. The same keyword can return different results depending on who searches and where. This tool fixes those variables so checks are comparable:

Location

Results are fetched for the whole country, not your city. Local searches like “dentist near me” can vary a lot between neighbourhoods.

Device

This tool checks desktop results. Mobile results are often close but can differ, especially when SERP features take more space.

Personalization

Your own Google searches are influenced by your history and signed-in account. These results are not personalized.

Live snapshot

Rankings change daily. You see the results at the time of the check (cached for 24 hours), not an average.

Google Search Console reports an average position across every search where your page appeared, so it will rarely match a single live check exactly. Both are useful: Search Console for trends, a SERP checker for a current, comparable snapshot with the competitors around you.

A One-off Check, Not a Daily Tracker

Use this SERP checker for spot checks: after publishing a page, before choosing which keyword to target next, or to see who you compete with. It does not save your keywords or check them again automatically.

In LazySEO, you connect Google Search Console to a project and the dashboard shows the clicks, impressions, CTR and average position of your queries and pages over the date range you pick, using Google’s own data.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is this SERP checker?

It shows the live Google results for your keyword at the moment you check, fetched for the whole country you pick, on desktop, in that market’s main language and without personalization (results come from the DataForSEO SERP API). That is a faithful snapshot of one search, not a guarantee of what every searcher sees. Your own search can differ because of your city, mobile vs desktop, your search history and Google’s constant reshuffling. Positions count organic results only, so ads, the local pack and other SERP features are not included in the number.

Can I check multiple keywords at once?

Yes. Enter up to 5 keywords per check, one per line or separated by commas. Each keyword gets its own top 100 lookup, and the table shows your position, ranking URL and SERP features side by side. You can export everything to CSV. To keep the tool free there is a short anti-abuse limit of 3 checks per minute and 20 per hour.

How often should I check my rankings?

For most sites, once a week or once a month is enough. Rankings move a little every day, so daily spot checks mostly show noise. After you publish or update a page, give Google a few days to a few weeks before judging the result. Results here are cached for 24 hours, so checking the same keyword twice in a day returns the same snapshot. For a trend over time, use Google Search Console’s average position report.

Why is my site not in the top 100?

Common reasons: the page is not indexed yet (search Google for site:yourdomain.com), the page is new, you checked a different country than the one you rank in, the ranking page sits on a subdomain while “Include subdomains” is off, or your page does not match what Google shows for the keyword. If the top 10 are tools and your page is a blog post (or the other way round), the format is the problem rather than the wording. Compare your page with the top 10 in the results.

What is the difference between free and paid rank trackers?

Paid rank trackers check hundreds or thousands of keywords automatically every day, keep a history, track mobile and city-level results and send alerts. This free SERP checker is a one-off live check of up to 5 keywords, on desktop, for one country at a time, with no history. Google Search Console is also free and shows your average position for every query you appear for, averaged across all searches.

Which countries and devices can I check?

You can check Google in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Germany, France, Spain, Italy or Romania. Each market uses that country’s Google results in its main language. Results are for desktop searches; mobile rankings are often similar but not identical.

Is the SERP checker free?

Yes. It is free and needs no account or credit card. The only limits are the 5 keywords per check and the anti-abuse throttle described above.

Average PositionAverage position is a metric in Google Search Console that reports the mean ranking position of a URL or domain for a given query or set of queries over a specified time period. A keyword ranking of "1" means the page appears first in the organic results for that query.SERP FeaturesSERP features are non-standard elements that appear in Google's search results alongside or instead of traditional blue-link organic results.
