Bottom of Funnel (BOFU)

Bottom of Funnel (BOFU) refers to the decision stage of the buyer's journey, where potential customers have completed their research and are ready to take action — make a purchase, sign up for a trial, or request a demo. BOFU content in SEO targets high-intent transactional queries, including product pages, pricing pages, landing pages, local search pages, and branded comparison pages (e.g., "Brand X vs. Brand Y").

BOFU content typically has lower search volume than TOFU or MOFU content but significantly higher conversion rates, as visitors arriving through these queries are immediately actionable. Optimizing BOFU pages involves balancing SEO best practices with conversion rate optimization (CRO) principles — the two disciplines must work together to both attract qualified organic traffic and convert it effectively.

Why it matters for SEO

BOFU content is where organic traffic directly translates to revenue. Even modest ranking improvements for high-converting transactional keywords can produce significant revenue impact, making BOFU page optimization among the highest-ROI activities in a comprehensive SEO program.
