Google has confirmed that readability is not a direct ranking factor. However, readable content correlates strongly with lower bounce rates and higher dwell time — both indirect ranking signals. How are syllables counted?
This tool uses a vowel-group heuristic: consecutive vowels (a, e, i, o, u, y) count as one syllable group, with a silent trailing "e" removed. This is an approximation — it handles the vast majority of common English words correctly but may slightly miscount irregular words.
