Local Pack
The local pack (also called the map pack or three-pack) is a SERP feature that displays a set of local business listings — typically three results — alongside a Google Maps embed in response to queries with local intent. Each listing shows the business name, star rating, address, phone number, hours, and a link to the Google Business Profile.
The local pack appears at the top of the SERP, above the organic blue-link results, for queries that Google determines have local intent — such as "pizza near me," "plumber in Austin," or "best dentist Chicago." Appearing in the local pack is often more valuable than ranking first in organic results for local searches because of its prominent placement and rich information display.
Why it matters for SEO
The local pack captures a disproportionate share of clicks for local queries. Studies consistently show that local pack results receive more clicks than the organic results below them for location-based searches. For brick-and-mortar businesses and service-area businesses, local pack visibility is the primary SEO objective — it directly drives phone calls, direction requests, and in-person visits.
