Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs are a navigational element that shows users and search engines the hierarchical path from the homepage to the current page (e.g., Home > Category > Subcategory > Page). They appear both on the page itself and, when marked up with Schema.org breadcrumb structured data, in the search results URL line — replacing the raw URL with a more readable path.

Breadcrumbs improve site usability by helping users understand where they are within a site's architecture and navigate back to parent pages. From an SEO perspective, they reinforce site structure signals, distribute internal link equity, and make SERP listings more informative, which can improve click-through rates.

Why it matters for SEO

Breadcrumbs support both crawlability and user experience by clearly conveying site hierarchy. When combined with structured data markup, they enhance SERP appearance and signal a well-organized site architecture — a factor that positively correlates with crawl efficiency and topical authority.
